WHAT IS CIRCULAR ECONOMY?

A circular economy is an alternative to a traditional linear economy (Take, Make, Dispose) in which we keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life.

WHY CIRCULAR ECONOMY?

Circular economy is the future. This model is based on minimizing the extraction of raw materials and replacing it with resources locked up and forgotten in our waste. Combined with the use of renewable energy, reduced emissions, and greater industry efficiency, a circular economy provides our best chance to live within the bounds of the Earth’s capacity.

Four key benefits are:

  1. Creation of new green industries and jobs

  2. Reduced dependence on importation of raw materials

  3. Avoidance of environmental damage caused by resource extraction

  4. Less pollution entering the earth’s life support systems

HEPHAESTUS

GOD OF

CRAFTMANSHIP

At Kykloss, we want zero or minimal wastage in the products we produce. Thus, we are planning on working with NGOs to create Hephaestus - A repair workshop aimed to help upcycle garments into useful products such as bags and small accessories like earrings.

Hephaestus, our workshop, is named after the God of craftsmanship and fire. Kykloss is heavily inspired by the legend of Hephaestus was the god of fire, metalworking, stone masonry, forges and the art of sculpture. In Greek lore, he was the son of Zeus and Hera and married to Aphrodite by Zeus to prevent a war of the gods fighting for her hand. He was a smithing god, making all of the weapons for Olympus and acting as a blacksmith for the gods. A symbol of craftsmanship.

At Hephaestus, we offer repairs services to worn and torn garments and upgrades that include upcycling old garments with brand new embroidery designs. On top of that, we also help provide communities with vocational training.

Customers can enjoy our services such as:

  • All simple fixes are free of costs, such as a loss of a button, minor holes and tears.

  • Garments can be freshly redyed as well if the colours have been faded out with a small cost.

  • Worn garments can be upgraded or repaired over with embroideries, cost varies depending on embroidery.

  • Garments at the very end of their life can be returned back to us and be recycled into a new product such as bags.

BAGS & ACCESSORIES

As a result of the Hephaestus workshop, we have upcycled a jacket from a recent collection into a modern and functional bag design that features a

2-in-1 carry function—a top handle and drawstring—with the proposed fabric. Users can either carry it over their shoulders or sling it as a backpack by attaching the drawstrings to the D-shaped rings. Both the handle and drawstrings can be kept/hidden. Any fabric left over will be used to create accessories such as earring studs.

Other garments will feature transformable panels which can be interchangeable to other parts of the bag such as the base. Therefore, consumers will be presented with the option of interchanging bag panels into other designs.
